The Volčji Potok Arboretum is the most visited botanical garden in Slovenia and the pearl of Slovenian garden culture.

The worth seeing destination for walkers and hikers is located near the capital Ljubljana.
The arboretum is among the most significant heritage of garden architecture in Slovenia, which is why it was declared a cultural monument of national importance in 1999. One of the most famous settings of the Volčji Potok Arboretum is the French garden, designed by the former owner of the estate Leon Souvan. The park covers an area of 85 hectares and impresses with almost 5000 species of trees and plants from all parts of the world.

This impressive park and botanical garden shows a different inviting face in every season and never lets you get bored. There are a thousand flowers and trees to discover everywhere. Walking in spring you can admire more than two million flowers of a hundred different varieties of tulips and other bulbous flowers. In May, a visit to two English gardens, where colorful rhododendrons grow, is a must.

June is dedicated to roses. Because of their uniqueness, they attract special attention. The collection includes over 1,200 varieties of roses. Be amazed by the sensually beautiful summer flowers.

Even in midsummer, the beds in the Volčji Potok Arboretum are full of beautiful flowers. Every year, among the seasonal plantings, dahlias in particular attract visitors' attention. Perennial plants are an eye-catcher and at the same time a haven of peace from the first days of spring until winter. In midsummer and autumn the park glows in the most beautiful colors and birdsong lets the sounds of everyday life fade away.

Special exhibitions accompany the whole year and enrich the visit to the park.

In the old part of the park you can relax in a coffee house and for all children there is a large playground. The countless walking paths offer many places to sit and relax. Or you can enjoy a small picnic on the well-kept meadows or by one of the large old trees.

The arboretum is located in a former park of the castle, of which only ruins remain today. The top of the castle hill can be reached by a path. On the mountain, in addition to the ruins of the mighty castle wall, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Kamnik Alps (or Steiner Alps) and the surrounding area. In the arboretum you can also find a collection of tropical beauties. The most beautiful orchids, cacti and tropical butterflies can be admired here in a permanent exhibition.
