Lovers of contemporary art and culture and all the exciting things that make a destination attractive will get their money's worth in Slovenia.

Not only in the capital Ljubljana, which is the epicenter of the action when it comes to festivals and other events and is home to numerous art institutions and creative hubs - there are also places in other parts of the country that impress not only with their ambience, but above all with their cultural offerings.

We have selected a few creative hubs that you can plan to visit on your next trip to Slovenia. There are also a few exciting new additions, such as the Center Rog in Ljubljana, the Rotovž in Maribor and the Lah Contemporary Museum of Contemporary Art in Bled.

Maribor Art Gallery
Enter the world of contemporary art in Maribor. Get to know the biggest names in Slovenian visual arts of the last hundred years and follow the influential events of the international art scene. In the gallery you can meet not only works by established artists, but also young rising stars of contemporary art. Discover current themes in the visual arts.

The National Museum of Slovenia
The oldest and most fascinating objects in the museum bear witness to the high cultural development on the territory of Slovenia since prehistoric times. The 60,000-year-old Neanderthal flute, considered to be the oldest musical instrument in the world, is kept here. Valuable objects also include the situla from Vače, a gold plaque from the 13th or 12th century BC found in Lake Bled, an idol and a dugout canoe from the Ljubljana marshes, a fair robe made from garments worn by Hassan Pasha, a Breverl with magical sayings and an urn with the heart of the founder of the Trappist monastery.

The National Gallery
Take a stroll through the National Gallery and discover Slovenia's art treasures, which range from the 13th to the 20th century. You will be amazed by the Slovenian Impressionists and their depiction of the Slovenian landscape, which shines in vibrant colors. Get to know the works of Anton Ažbet, Jurij Šubic and Jožef Petkovšek, the almost photographic depictions of old costumes and customs by Maksim Gaspari and the refined summer of the painter Ivana Kobilica. The collection is further enriched by works by the famous painter Zoran Mušič.

Posavje Museum Brežice
In the popular Renaissance and Baroque castle you can make extraordinary discoveries from the Neolithic and Iron Age. Some of them are up to 7000 years old. Among the rare exhibits is a baroque sledge, a gift from the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. The imposing Knights' Hall, which is entirely painted with baroque frescoes depicting Ovid's Metamorphoses, is breathtaking. Don't miss the concerts that often take place in this unique Slovenian gem.

Center Rog, Ljubljana
The Slovenian capital has been enriched by a creative and social center: the Center Rog, which has found its premises in the former Rog bicycle factory. The building on the banks of the Ljubljanica River is considered the most important building of 20th century industrial heritage in Ljubljana, and its new content will remain true to the tradition of craftsmanship. Center Rog will house a series of workshops and studios where artists and craftspeople can design and make their own products. There will also be a branch of the city library, a café and a bistro, coupled with a varied program of events.

Lah Contemporary Museum
A new museum of contemporary art is currently being built in Bled, near the picturesque Lake Bled, at the foot of Castle Hill, on which the oldest castle in Slovenia is enthroned. The Lah Contemporary Museum will not only be a great addition to Bled and its surroundings, but also an architectural highlight. The building was designed by the renowned architectural firm David Chipperfield Architects. The gallery will house a private collection of Slovenian and international artists.

Center Rotovž
The opening of the Rotovž Center in Maribor is planned for 2025. The new "heart of the city" is to become a shared space for a variety of cultural content. This will revive the Town Hall Square/Rotovški trg, which will function as a shared intergenerational creative, cultural and educational space. The renovated Maribor library, programs of the Maribor Art Gallery and an art cinema will find their place there, as well as creative workshops and classrooms and a multimedia room designed like an amphitheater that can be converted into an event space.
