The countdown has begun: in 2025, Slovenia's youngest city Nova Gorica and neighboring Gorizia (Italy) will light up together as European Capital of Culture.

Two cities, countless stories about culture, art, creativity and visionarity. Discover with us the stories that connect these two picturesque cities and the region in which they are located.

The fact that two cities together form a European Capital of Culture is unique. As unique as their history. Nova Gorica is the youngest town in Slovenia, which has close historical and everyday ties with Gorizia on the Italian side of the border.

Situated in a landscape characterized by fertile hills, orchards and vineyards of the Brda and Vipava valleys - crossed by the emerald green Soča, which rises in the bosom of the Alps - and at the same time not far from the mysterious Karst and the sea - Nova Gorica is a town with a relatively young history.

NOVA GORICA AND GORIZIA = TWO CITIES UNITED IN A BOUNDLESS CREATIVE DISTRICT

At the heart of the future European Capital of Culture will be the so-called KHE district, which will be built on the approximately one kilometer long border strip between the former customs offices. The area will not only be an event and meeting center for the European Capital of Culture year, but also a future meeting place for city residents and visitors based on environmentally friendly solutions, sustainable renewal and new content.

#BORDERLESS PROJECTS
...from dance to fashion, from gastronomy to sport The European City of Culture will bring together much more than just the region's art and culture.
