Until the end of October, 76 towns celebrate the Salzburg Harvest Festival with around 2,000 events. This time brings color to life and touches all the senses... Experience the fall atmosphere

Autumn is a time when traditions and customs take center stage. We once again devote ourselves entirely to alpine regional cuisine with everything autumn has to offer. There is music, singing and dancing at folklore evenings, farm and harvest festivals.

Traditions and customs that have survived for decades or even centuries and have found their way into the present are impressive - from tasting delicacies to knowledge of herbalism and solid handicraft courses.

The Salzburg Harvest Festival is the ideal occasion to wear a dirndl dress and lederhosen. The traditional costume is worn with pride and great self-confidence in SalzburgerLand - by locals and visitors to the region alike. The traditional costume is not only beautiful to look at and varied, it is also full of details and secrets. Only connoisseurs know what it means when a woman ties the ribbon on her apron on the right (married) or left (single) or perhaps even in the middle (looking for someone).

Especially during the Bauernherbst, manufactories and tailors open their doors and provide insights into traditional sewing and craft techniques. Masters of their trade are on hand to show how they make delicate quill embroidery or bobbin lace; this technique is even a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site. You can put your own dexterity to the test at workshops and courses, whether it's handicrafts, felting or sewing.

Alpine cuisine during the Salzburg Harvest Festival
Salzburg's farmers are guardians of a real culinary treasure. It is thanks to them that SalzburgerLand is considered the "delicatessen of Europe". They cultivate fields and farmland with care, keep animals to the highest standards and stock farm stores with regional specialties. When it comes to tasting and enjoying, these people share old recipes that their families have been passing down for generations. They treat guests and locals to delicacies such as "Schöpsernen", "Bladln" and "Bauernkrapfen" during the Salzburg Harvest Festival. If you would like to meet the farmers themselves, you can do so at their stalls at festivals or at the weekly markets in SalzburgerLand.
