After making a name for itself worldwide as an Eldorado for gourmets, Slovenia has now reached its most important culinary milestone: the boutique destination and European Region of Gastronomy 2021 has officially been added to the world's most prestigious gastronomic map. Guide MICHELIN has revealed the first six Slovenian Michelin star restaurants.

Two Michelin stars were awarded to chef Ana Roš, Hiša Franko restaurant, with her modern interpretation of traditional cuisine and exceptional culinary experience, as pointed out by Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Guide MICHELIN. Ana Roš is more than happy: "We will work even harder. This award is not just for Valter and me. This is for Leo and Ivonne, Alen, Manca and the whole team waiting outside. This can only be the beginning of a wonderful story. As I write in my book, sunshine follows rain - and after this challenging time in the restaurant business, we need it more than ever."

Five other excellent Slovenian restaurants have received their first Michelin stars. Chef Tomaž Kavi (Pri Lojzetu) thanked his entire team and family for their hard work over the past 20 years, as did Chef Uroš Faku (Dam Restaurant), who revealed that earning a Michelin star was his childhood dream. Chef Gregor Vrako (Hiša Denk) was almost speechless and just emphasized that the first star for Hiša Denk belongs to everyone there. Chef Jorg Zupan (Restaurant Atelje) reminded how important it is to use only local ingredients, while Chef Uroš Štefelin (Vila Podvin) is also closely connected with the local environment.

Another star lights up the Slovenian Michelin sky
In a year when Slovenia may hold the title of "European Gastronomic Region 2021", another excellent restaurant shines in the Slovenian Michelin star sky. From now on, the Gostišče Grič restaurant joins the list of Slovenia's starred restaurants awarded by the MICHELIN Guide.

Slovenian gastronomyalso once again received a lively reception from the expert jury in thesustainability category: no fewer than six restaurants received the "Green Star," an award that honors commitment to sustainable operations. This special Michelin Sustainability Award has been given to the following Slovenian chefs and restaurants: Gostišče Grič (Luka Košir), Hiša Franko (Ana Roš), Gostilna Krištof (Uroš Gorjanc), Gostilna za Gradom (Davide Crisci), Gostilna Mahorčič (Ksenija Krajšek Mahorčič) and Vila Podvin (Uroš Štefelin).
