Coming from the north, a lot of southern flair amazes not long after crossing the Brenner Pass.

And yet almost everyone here speaks German, with Italian in between.
Experience lake and mountains. Überetscher architectural style and contemporary architecture.
Red and white wine. Grapes and apples.
A paradisiacal corner in the south of South Tyrol, in the north of Italy.

Wine culture and wine history
History is often wine history in Kaltern, culture is often wine culture. The South Tyrolean Wine Museum is here, there is the Wine House and countless wineries, vinotheques and Buschenschanken. There is wine at every turn, often in the historical garb of the Überetscher architectural style, but more and more often in striking contemporary architecture. Some of the buildings are reported far beyond the borders.

Village, lake and mountains
In the village, the center of all activities - concerts, from traditional to classical, festivals, tastings such as the Caldaro Wine Days, farmers' markets and much more - is the market square. On the lake there are beach resorts, walking and cycling paths and opportunities for all water sports. Finally, the mountains let you do almost anything: hiking, biking, mountaineering.

South Tyrolean food and Italian cuisine
With the wine comes the appetite. Also the cuisine connects north and south. There are dumplings, bacon, and polenta; fish from the lake and the finest Mediterranean cuisine. Not to forget the famous "Törggelen", the custom of tasting the new wine together in autumn. In addition one eats bacon, Kaminwurzn, Geselchtes, sauerkraut and dumplings and afterwards roasted chestnuts and sweet doughnuts.

Climate and weather
Kaltern has a Mediterranean climate. Lake Kaltern and the towering local mountains with their warm winds are climate factor number 1 in South Tyrol's south. The warm season begins as early as March and often does not end until October of the year.

Where else in the Alps are there olive trees and palm trees, vineyards and apple orchards?
