Stir, pluck, swirl is the name of the game at the Kaiserschmarrn Festival on May 25, 2024 in Ellmau am Wilden Kaiser/Tyrol. According to legend, the Austrian specialty was created on the occasion of the wedding of Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1854. However, his bride Sissi spurned the dessert, whereupon her husband took the plate and said, "Well, then I'll just eat the Schmarrn."

The celebration in honor of the Kaiserschmarrn begins shortly before noon with the procession of the innkeepers into the village center. Afterwards, the curious can sample different varieties of Schmarrn at several stands, including the classic with stewed plums or exotics such as herb Schmarrn with Highland beef balls from local breeding.
