When the sun sets behind the mountains in winter...

is far from over on the Swiss slopes, hiking trails and toboggan runs.

In many vacation destinations, the lights are switched on, the headlamps are put on - or you are out and about in the glow of the full moon in the mysteriously glittering winter world.

Incredibly romantic - The Laternliweg in Appenzell (Eastern Switzerland / Liechtenstein)
The Laternliweg on the Schwa?galp invites you to take a walk through the snow-covered winter forest after dark. The approximately two-kilometer-long circular path is only illuminated with kerosene lamps and leads through the NaturErlebnispark Schwa?galp/Säntis. The Laternliweg is illuminated from November to March on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, between Christmas and New Year's Day even daily. After the walk, the hungry hikers can round off the evening with a cosy fondue or raclette in the Gasthaus Passhöhe or in the hotel Säntis.

Night skiing fun in L'Orient (Lake Geneva area)
In the Vallée de Joux, the L'Orient slope offers ski fans an experience unique in the region: skiers can still practice their favorite sport here late at night, and snowboarders can take advantage of the 12 modules of the snow park. During the winter season, the slope is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. Night skiing fans should not miss the all-inclusive "Ski Fondue" offer, which includes evening skiing fun as well as a typical Swiss fondue at the foot of the slopes or in the nearby sports center. The price for adults is 30 Swiss francs (around 25 euros) and for children 28 Swiss francs (around 24 euros).

Night snowshoe tours in Valais
Night snowshoe adventures take place throughout the winter in Valais. Choices include themed hikes or culinary tours. In La Tzoumaz, snowshoe hikes through the Etablons forests take place every Tuesday evening from December to April.

Alpwirtschaft Laui: In the "Hot Pot" under the stars (Lucerne - Lake Lucerne)
For all wellness fans, this experience is something very special. On the nightly snowshoe tour, the path leads through untouched nature to the Laui hut. Once there, a fine Swiss fondue awaits the hikers. Then it's off to relax in the oversized outdoor bathtub, the "Laui Hot-Pot." www.alp-laui.ch

Idyllic ascent, culinary flight of fancy, rapid descent (Fribourg region)
The alpine hut Le Vuipay above Les Paccots is known for its cheese specialties, which are produced by François Liaudat himself in summer. In winter, François opens the hut to his guests who have made their way to him on snowshoes. After the ascent (about 1.5 to 2 hours) François serves his self-produced specialties such as fondue moitié-moitié, macaroni, cheese slices, dried meat, rösti or Fribourg ham. The way back is by sledge. The alpine hut is open from mid-December until the end of March every day except Mondays, as well as during moonlight or with prior reservation for 15 guests or more. www.lespaccots.ch

Night sledding in Preda / Bergün (Grisons)
In the Grisons lies the longest illuminated toboggan run in Europe. With its length of several kilometers and its winding track, it is also one of the most popular tracks among sledders. To get to the starting point in Preda, take the Rhaetian Railway from Bergün. The toboggan run is located on the pass road between Bergün and Preda, which is specially closed throughout the winter so that the tobogganers have a clear run.

Glüna Plaina - full moon skiing on the Diavolezza (Grisons)
Descent into the night, only the light of the full moon illuminates the slope: On the Diavolezza in Graubünden, skiing at a late hour has become a tradition. When the full moon (in Romansh: Glüna Plaina) turns on its soft light, the Diavolezza mountain restaurant calls for a summit dinner followed by a moonlight ride down quiet slopes back to the valley. Night skiing takes place every full moon from December to April.

Total cross-country skiing - even at night (Bern)
Kandersteg is a cross-country mecca. The network comprises over 100 kilometers of trails. Even at nightfall, cross-country skiing is still possible - thanks to lighting. Those who have not exerted themselves enough during the day can strap on the thin laths once again in the evening. The 6-kilometer-long cross-country ski trail is prepared again daily before 5:30 p.m. and is illuminated until 9 p.m. The varied route leads through the middle of the village.
