Plan your hiking season in the Principality of Liechtenstein with the new and free hiking guide.

Which European country has the densest network of hiking trails? It's not the Alpine classics Switzerland or Austria, but the small Principality of Liechtenstein, nestled between these two countries. A record-breaking 400 km of hiking trails criss-cross the 160 square kilometers of Europe's fourth smallest state.

A brisk hiker must be good on his feet if he wants to explore all the paths and footbridges in 14 days. As a nature and hiking paradise, Liechtenstein surprises its visitors with princely moments: Alps, mountain huts, the legendary Fürstensteig or the flowery Fürstin-Gina-Weg await visitors in the mountain world, which reaches up to 2600 meters. The small monarchy is one of the few countries in the world that can be hiked through in three to four day stages on the Liechtenstein Trail or the Liechtenstein Panorama Trail.

The Liechtenstein Trail

Explore an entire country on one trail: the Liechtenstein Trail offers 75 kilometers of exciting stories, sights and magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. It is suitable for outdoor enthusiasts and pleasure hikers alike and can be explored on foot or by bike. To ensure that you don't miss any attractions and can enjoy all the sights, we recommend planning a total of five to six days for the route. This can also be easily divided into weekends or several short stays.

The cycle route deviates slightly from the hiking route in some places and is 85 km long, but you will still pass all the highlights of the country. To explore the route on two wheels, we recommend three daily stages.

Liechtenstein mountain huts

Four mountain huts are located on Liechtenstein territory. The Gafadura hut is a popular destination for an after-work hike or mountain bike tour. The Pfälzerhütte and the Berggasthaus Sareis are ideal starting points for hikes to other mountain huts in the mountain region.

The tour guide brings together 21 exciting hikes
for families, connoisseurs and mountain hikers.

If you would like to have the hiking guide in handy A5 format with you on your hikes, we recommend you order the hiking guide free of charge or download it here.

Guided hikes & special tours

If you don't want to embark on your own hiking adventure, you can take part in a guided hike. Here is a small foretaste...

  • Only in the Liechtenstein mountain village of Malbun is it possible to go on a hike with a golden eagle.
  • There is almost nothing more relaxing than a hike through the Liechtenstein Alps with llamas and alpacas. An entertaining nature experience for young and old.
  • On this legend hike, "Wander-Kathi" takes you into shady fairytale forests and across colorful flower meadows along the WalserSagenWeg.
  • Individual, guided special tours for nature lovers and photographers. Get to know the Principality of Liechtenstein from its "natural side".
