Discover an entire country in 48 hours? That is quite possible in Liechtenstein. Of course, the time will not be enough, but some lasting experiences are guaranteed.
Why not start at the very top and dive into our mountain world past Vaduz Castle? If you take a seat in the chairlift to Sareis in Malbun, you can enjoy the mountain panorama at the Sareiserjoch vantage point.
If you like to be active, you could also take the explorer's path from the Schluchertreff in the direction of Sass Seelein. After a short rest, it goes back again or maybe even further to Schönberg (time required: 2-4h)?
In Malbun you are welcome to stay longer. Be it to admire the majestic bird-of-prey flight show (time required: 45min), to solve the riddles of the magical Malbun portal or to complete the 2.5 km long 3D arrow bow course with life-size animal figures (time required: approx. 90min each). Afterwards it is worthwhile to stop at one of the mountain restaurants.
On the way back to the valley you pass Steg. Here a digestive walk along the Gänglesee to Alpe Valüna is recommended. A place of peace and relaxation and a nice excursion destination for families and nature lovers (time required: approx. 45min).
Experience Vaduz
In Vaduz, it is a good idea to take the Städtle Tour on the CityTrain. It takes visitors through historic Old Vaduz, past the Vaduz vineyards, to make a photo stop below the famous Red House with a panoramic view of Vaduz Castle.
Afterwards, the tour continues through the beautiful countryside around Vaduz. Meanwhile, you will learn the most important facts about the country, the Princely House, historical and current events. The way back to the center of Vaduz leads past Liechtenstein's stadium, the Rheinparkstadium (time: 35min).
Now it's worth continuing on foot and strolling through the Städtle, past stores and cafes, the Sculpture Park and the Museum Mile toward Peter-Kaiser-Platz, where the state parliament and government buildings stand.
Which museum looked particularly enticing? Of course, each is worth a visit: LandesMuseum, PostMuseum, SchatzKammer, Kunstraum Engländerbau and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein with Hilti Art Foundation. All have a lot to offer for those interested in culture and history.
Liechtenstein Unterland
The next day we continue with a detour to the Unterland. Why not enjoy the morning freshness in Ruggeller Riet? The approximately 90-hectare nature reserve in the north of Liechtenstein offers nature lovers a wonderful experience. At the end of May, the Siberian iris is in bloom and numerous other plants and animals, such as the stork, have found an ideal habitat here.
Fancy a bit of history? There are many historically interesting places in the Liechtenstein Unterland. E.g. the castle ruins in Schellenberg, the Eschner Pfrundbauten or the Roman estate in Nendeln to name just a few.
For the lunch break we recommend a stop in one of the traditional restaurants. How about a portion of cheese dumplings?
The afternoon is best spent at Grossabünt. The large recreational area with bathing lake in the center has something to offer for everyone. Whether relaxing or swimming in the lake, a walk around the complex or some sporting activity - active people, families and bon vivants meet here in equal measure.
Alternatively, you could drive back to the Oberland and walk up to Gutenberg Castle in Balzers, whose outer courtyard, unlike Vaduz Castle, can also be visited (castle chapel with rose garden only during the season).
