Where elsewhere in South Tyrol the peaks are still covered in snow, in and around Scena thousands and thousands of apple trees are already transforming the valley into a sea of pink and white blossom.
If you want to actively discover the spring blossom, hike along the Schenner Waalweg, accompanied by the soothing rippling of the centuries-old irrigation canal. Or you can hike the Merano Waalrunde. On the mostly flat paths along the typical watercourses, you can discover the South Tyrolean region in eight days in a very relaxed way - always accompanied by the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the blossoming orchards. The route connects eleven irrigation channels from Algund, Kuens, Riffian, Lana, Tscherms, Marling, Partschins, Rabland, Naturns and Schenna - where two of the historic irrigation channels are located. They can also be hiked along the Schenner and Maiser Waalweg in a day trip.
Schenner Waalweg. From the Waaler Hütte above the Verdins district, hikers follow the quiet babbling of the Waal towards the valley station of the Taser cable car and Gasthof Pichler. From there, the Waalweg trail heads south via the romantic "Katzenleiter" stone steps and the Brunjaunhof farm, where you can stop for refreshments, to the hamlet of St. Georgen. Its showpiece is the round church from the 12th/13th century with its frescoes and a Gothic winged altar. The Schenner Waalweg trail is also close to the castle complex of Goyen Castle, and the new Torgglerhof distillery is just a short detour away.

Maiser Waalweg. The start of the Maiser Waal can be reached via the Leiterweg and past the Innerleiterhof winery. An even more beautiful loop starts in the center of Schenna and leads via the Mitterplattweg through apple orchards and the Oberhaslerhof to the Maiser Waalweg. Speaking of the Oberhaslerhof farm: farmer Priska Weger cultivates one of the most beautiful herb gardens in South Tyrol. The farm store and a "Regiomat" with drinks, initiated by son Martin, are brand new. Return via the Waldweg or the Riffianerweg to the center of the village, where Schenna Castle is enthroned. The landlord, Count Franz Spiegelfeld, will personally show you the living quarters of Archduke Johann (1782-1859).
