When the first flakes fall, the houses in Schenna near Merano wear white caps,

The streets are festively decorated and the winter sun bathes all seven districts in warm light. Lovers of the cold season can start from here directly to the mountain hike through the snow together with the whole family. They can explore nearby ski resorts or simply enjoy the pre-Christmas magic. At the first Schenner Schlossadvent, for example, vacationers are put in a contemplative mood with South Tyrolean handicrafts as well as musical and culinary delights. Rustic parlors await hungry visitors either in the village or on the mountain.

When the layer of snow on the mountains is thick enough for skiing, but the sun still smiles, then it is winter in South Tyrol. In Schenna, temperatures remain mild year-round, attracting passionate sports enthusiasts as well as bon vivants to the community on the sunny hill above Merano.

The nearby Merano 2000 ski area is located four kilometers from Schenna and takes guests directly from the valley to the slopes in just seven minutes with the help of the brand new Naif panorama lift. Cross-country ski trails, hiking routes, three rental stations as well as ski and snowboard schools round off the offer. Accompanied snowshoe hikes lead you on silent soles through the winter wonderland. For little vacationers there is the alpine bob run, the natural toboggan run and the new "Luckis Kinderland" with winter kindergarten and baby lift. Silent, rigid and covered by deep snow, this is how Schenna guests experience one of the most popular summer hiking areas in South Tyrol during the cold season. The alpine pastures, hamlets and forests below the Hirzer massif are now just the thing for explorers: many lines of paws and paws prove that more wild animals than humans leave their tracks here.

The ice rink at Gasthof Tiefenbrunn in Schenna offersa mirror-smooth winter pleasure. There you can rent skates and ice sticks. Lovers of leisurely walks or winter hikes can also start their tours directly from their accommodation without the hassle of getting there. The routes with Nordic walking signs lead through snow-covered landscapes, are easy to master for young and old and end, if desired, in a Schenner inn with bacon dumplings, goulash or Kaiserschmarrn.

Almost untouched paths await vacationers during the cold season in the extensive Hirzer hiking area. On foot, with snowshoes or on a ski tour, nature lovers experience the silence on the mountain and follow the tracks of wild animals. Nevertheless, no one has to do without a stop for refreshments - selected alpine pastures and snack stations have hearty South Tyrolean specialties ready for hungry visitors.
