For many skiers, the most beautiful time only begins when the days become noticeably longer. Sun skiing means pleasure skiing. High above the city on the Nordkette, in the Axamer Lizum or in Kühtai, you can enjoy extended skiing days and let yourself be pampered by the spring sun. This winter, sun skiing is twice as much fun: Thanks to the abundance of snow that transformed Tyrol into a true winter wonderland in January, skiers can still look forward to optimal slope conditions in March/April.The altitude of the ski areas - Kühtai, for example, lies at over 2,000 meters - as well as nighttime frost temperatures and the perfect work of the piste teams are the icing on the cake for spring skiing pleasure.

The early bird catches the worm
The best piste conditions await passionate sun skiers in the morning: after breakfast, you can either go directly from the hotel to the piste, as in Kühtai, or in Innsbruck in a few minutes directly from the city to the Nordkette. A leisurely stop for lunch can be combined with a chill afternoon on the sun terrace. However, particularly sporty skiers can add a few more turns to their day, for example, before finishing it off in the sun loungers on the Seegrube. Or you can take the gondola back to town and get a breath of "spring air".

Only in spring: Firrn, Figln and the first cappuccino in the sun
Innsbruck lives the winter - and so it is not surprising that for the "winter finale" quasi an own sport was invented. Figl is short for Firngleiter: short, ski-like boards for spring-like snow conditions. The Innsbruck mountain enthusiast Emo Johann Heinrich patented the mini-skis in the middle of the 20th century. They are used to speed through "firn" and "sulz" - the name given to snow that has a very special consistency in spring. To strap on these special skis, in the best case, you only need normal ankle-high hiking boots - the Figl can be rented. The technique is a little different from normal skiing: When skiing with firn gliders, you use a strong backstroke, in contrast to the conventional skiing technique.

Open until the end of April: Kühtai
A particularly long ski season can be enjoyed in Kühtai. While the Nordkette closes its doors to skiers on April 7 and the Axamer Lizum on April 14, Kühtai remains open until April 28.
