If you want it to be romantic, imposing and breathtaking, there is only one destination: the Jungfrau Region in the Bernese Alps. The top ten most beautiful experiences:

Here the ice giants Eiger (3967 m), Mönch (4,1207 m) and Jungfrau (4,158 m) are enthroned high above the world. And you are very quickly high up between the peaks and have a gigantic view. The new Eiger Express and the Jungfrau Railway take explorers comfortably up to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe - to the viewing platform with the highest station in Europe at 3,454 meters. High up and also down in the valley, around Grindelwald and Interlaken, there is much to discover.

The top ten most beautiful experiences:

1. lifted off: With the First Flieger or the First Glider down into the valley.
A little language course: The mountain north above Grindelwald is really called First and not English "Först". At an altitude of 2,167 meters, adventurous guests experience how to get a fear of heights - or lose it again by having a lot of fun. The gondola takes 25 minutes from the station in the middle of Grindelwald. The descent is by two cable cars, the "First Flieger" and the "First Glider". With them, you whiz down an 800-meter-long flight route at over 80 km/h, partly 50 meters high above the alpine meadows.

2. high up: Eiger Express and Eiger North Face
The new Eiger Express, the world's most modern 3S gondola lift, takes guests from the Grindelwald terminal to the Eiger Glacier station in just 15 minutes. Here you can transfer directly to the Jungfrau Railway, which goes up to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe. The Eiger Express shortens the journey by 47 minutes. During the ride in the cabins with 26 seats, you come within reach of the imposing Eiger North Face, the "wall of walls" made of rock and ice. Climbers, who have now opened up 30 routes in the wall, did not have it so easy.

3. the sea of ice: history on the way to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe
If you get off at the "Eismeer" station (at 3,160 meters) during your ride on the Jungfrau Railway, you will get your first impression of how this unique glacier world presents itself up close. Erratic ice blocks under a blanket of eternal snow, a little further away the panorama of the imposing four-thousand-meter peaks - a picture like thousands of years ago.

4. the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe: The most beautiful panoramic view of the Alps.
At 3,466 meters, the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe is the lowest point in the connecting ridge between the Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. There is a lot to discover here: restaurants, stores and adventure areas such as the Jungfrau Panorama, the Alpine Sensation, a Snow Fun Park and the Ice Palace. But the best panoramic view is from the Sphinx viewing terrace. An ultra-fast lift takes you in 25 seconds to this observatory of an international research station, 108 meters higher. On one side, you can see the Swiss Plateau as far as the Vosges, and on the other, the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four-thousand-meter peaks. You can't get a better view than that.

5 The Ice Palace on the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe: Eagle and Penguin made of Ice
Works of art by local artists await visitors on a mirror-smooth tour of a frosty world. Eagle, penguin and bear look as if they have just been frozen into ice. And Charlie Chaplin makes you melt even at minus three degrees Celsius. Fantasies made of ice.

6. Kleine Scheidegg: Very close to the Eiger North Face
In the Bernese Alps, Kleine Scheidegg is the pass summit (2061 meters) between the Eiger and the Lauberhorn (3,967 meters). With the Bernese Oberland Railway, you first travel from Interlaken-Ost station to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. Here you then change to the Wengernalpbahn to travel to Kleine Scheidegg. Travel time from Interlaken-Ost: 1 hour and 15 minutes. For well-trained hikers, there is the "Eiger Trail", the "Jungfrau Eiger Walk" and the "Lauberhorn Trail" here. For all there is the sublime and breathtaking direct view of the Eiger North Face. Here you are very close to the legend.

7. from Interlaken to Lauterbrunn: train ride with a view
It takes just 20 minutes to go on a little journey with a view. In this time span, the train takes you from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen, where you change to the Wengernalpbahn. The voyage of discovery begins: the Jungfrau in the background, flanked by the mighty panorama of the Bernese Alps, at your feet the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley, opposite the white glowing Staubbach Falls, which plunge over the rock face into the valley. In the completely car-free Wengen, a mountain experience of the unspoiled kind awaits you.

8. the blue jewel of Grindelwald: Hiking around the Bachalpsee.
From the mountain station on the First you can not only glide down (see point 6), but also start a hike. It goes around the wonderfully blue shimmering Bachalpsee. The lake is worth the one-hour hike at any time of day and in any weather. Tip: In the early morning, the reflection of the Schreckhorn is at its most peaceful.

9. sea of flowers and alpine view on the Schynige Platte: take your picture
When hiking on the Schynige Platte ("shining plate"), you don't get far. Every few meters you bend down to admire the stars, umbels and bells that bloom on the meadows. Or you stop to take in the panorama. This is how everyone shifts down a gear. The historic Schynige Platte rack railroad takes you up to Schynige Platte via Alp Breitlauenen. The top station is at 1,967 meters, and the ride takes about an hour from Wilderswil. If you follow the "Swiss Flower & Panorama Trail" you can admire the stars, umbels and bells that bloom on the meadows. For really impressive photos, huge picture frames have been set up to show off themselves and the mountain world to perfection.

10. Harder Kulm: Here you can see not only well two lakes
On the Harder Kulm you feel like king and queen. From the viewing platform at 1,322 meters, you then look down graciously on Lakes Brienz and Thun and contemplate the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in peace. In fact, the panorama restaurant Harder Kulm is reminiscent of a castle. But to visit it, you don't have to be king or queen, just take a seat on the funicular in Interlaken and let it take you up to Interlaken's local mountain - with a 64 percent incline in places. The ride takes about 10 minutes.
