The rivers and lakes of the Julian and Savinj Alps offer an abundance of fish for anglers, including real classics as well as rare specimens.

The Soca trout, also called marbled trout, is considered the national pride of the Slovenians and is extensively farmed in the river of the same name. Anglers also like to see Soca grayling on their hooks.

In general, fishermen find between five and ten different species in Slovenia's waters. In addition to the Soca, the best fishing areas in the Alps are above all the green gorges in the Tolminka River gorge, which are also very popular with fly fishermen who like to climb. The largest natural lake in Bohinj is home to Arctic char, chub and perch.

Lake Bled, on the other hand, is famous for its trophies: Carp weighing more than 20 kilos have been pulled out of the water here, as well as record sizes of pike, catfish and zander. Fishing enthusiasts can find out about the best addresses for fishing spots, hotels and the managers of the waters in the 32-page brochure "Fishing in Slovenia".

The sporty summer comes to an end in October, when the second fishing festival with an international fly-tying meeting is held in Bohinj. Then, varied events related to the elegant hobby are on the program: courses and competitions in fly tying, entertainment and expert lectures, boat fishing on Lake Bohinj or fly fishing in the crystal clear rivers Sava, Soca or Idrijca.

Radovna
A cold, clear and beautiful little river at the foot of the great Triglav. It is home to brown trout with red spots and especially suitable for fly fishing. Due to the cold water the trout grow very slowly, but the river offers fishing in an exceptional environment, especially in summer when the water temperature of the river is higher.

Unec
Unec is Slovenia's most famous limestone stream, completely natural. Rich in insect life. Unec is also famous for its huge grayling, just as good as natural-sized browns.

Kokra
There are ponds, rapids and channels in the upper stream. They are hidden places for brown trout and grayling. The population is stable and from time to time the catching is amazing.
