Sunny alpine pastures up to 2518 meters, impressive mountains like the Sella-Stock or the landmark of the valley, the 3181 meters high Sassolungo, tower above the Val Gardena.

Every day the sun puts the beauty of the Dolomites with their spectacular mountain massifs and the scenically imposing valleys, with the villages of Ortisei (1236 m), S. Cristina (1428 m) and Selva Gardena (1563 m), again and again into the spotlight.

Countless legends and stories entwine around the mountain massifs and still exert an unbroken fascination today. In the summer months, the vacation region in the middle of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Dolomites offers plenty of sporting variety, art, culture and enjoyment for active hikers, enthusiastic climbers for sporty mountain bikers, families and leisurely nature lovers. Enjoyment is writ large in the Valley of the Lord Carvers, because hospitality has a tradition of over a hundred years in Val Gardena. No wonder that the offer ranges from gourmet restaurants and traditional inns to cozy managed alpine huts. For culture lovers, the concert series "ValgardenaMusika", the traditional folk festival "Gröden in Tracht" and the sculpture fair "UNIKA" are attractive summer highlights.

Well on foot in the spell of the pale mountains
Those who want to conquer the pale mountains on foot will find a wide range of offers in the home of mountaineering legend Luis Trenker, from classic pleasure hikes to sporty mountain runs and challenging climbing tours. Whether it's guided excursions in the Puez Geisler Nature Park, sunrise hikes with wildlife observation, mountain bike tours, children's programs or cooking classes followed by tastings - the Val Gardena Active program offers guests several guided excursions in the Val Gardena area every day.

Handicrafts in the valley of the woodcarvers
The roots of Val Gardena's woodcarving tradition go back a long way. Around 1600, families began to make tools, religious figures and children's toys in winter, working together at home. From this, in the late 18th century, an economic sector of fundamental importance developed. The woodcarvers of Val Gardena discovered new methods and created an innovative and versatile handicraft that can hardly be surpassed in its artistry. For those who want to watch the artists at work - in addition to numerous demonstrations and exhibitions, the Gardena Sculpture Fair UNIKA takes place here.
