The silence relaxes, the views fascinate, the walking boosts the circulation. Exploring the winter nature on snowshoes...

While winter hikers are mostly on cleared or prepared trails, snowshoe hikers head out into the open and trudge on the special shoes through the more or less deep snow.

A network of more than 180 winter hikes, from leisurely strolls to challenging tours, can be explored on foot in the wintry landscapes of Vorarlberg. In the Bregenzerwald there is "culinary winter hiking", into a world of ice leads the way through the Breitachklamm in Kleinwalsertal, llamas or alpacas accompany hiking enthusiasts in the Montafon and in Lech am Arlberg. A hike and overnight stay in an igloo made of snow or wood is available in the Bregenzerwald and Montafon....

Culinary winter hiking in the Bregenz Forest
Hiking and enjoying combine the day tours of "Culinary Winter Hiking" in the Bregenzerwald. The trail leads from breakfast to lunch and on to dessert, as each meal is served in a different mountain inn or restaurant. There is a choice of hiking routes in Hittisau/ Hochhäderich, Mellau-Bizau-Bezau and Sibratsgfäll-Schönenbach.

Full moon legend hike in the Silbertal in Montafon
On winter full moon evenings, storyteller Hertha Glück leads you on a winter hike through the world of Montafon legends. Equipped with kerosene lamps, the group wanders through the darkness and learns more about the night people and the Devil's Brook. Included in the participation is, among other things, a three-course menu with traditional dishes.

The icy Breitachklamm gorge in Kleinwalsertal valley
Snow and ice transform the Breitachklamm into a fairytale landscape. Glittering icicles, mighty ice curtains, solidified waterfalls and mysterious caves fascinate. Also an impressive experience: torchlight hikes that take place on certain dates.

A new feature is igloo glamping in the Silvretta Montafon ski resort.
Marvel at the winter night high up on the mountain and spend the night in comfort. First, participants enjoy a cheese fondue in the Valisera Hüsli. Then they hike with torches to the igloo village at Schwarzköpfle at 2,000 meters above sea level. Snuggled in thick blankets, they spend the night in the well-tempered wooden igloo. For breakfast, they go back to the nearby Valisera Hüsli.

Hiking with llamas and alpacas
They became known as beasts of burden, but today many appreciate llamas and alpacas for their calm charisma and endearing character. This is evident from the fact that hikes with the "camels of the Andes" are becoming increasingly popular. In Vorarlberg, the animals feel at home, even with the winter they have no problem at all with their thick fur. That's why there are several opportunities to go on hikes together with llamas and alpacas through the snowy landscape.
