Experience nature with all your senses, have plenty of space, do yourself good every day, discover new things and enjoy peace and harmony. Here in the southernmost part of the SalzburgerLand.

The wide, open main valley, spoiled by the sun and with friendly villages spread out on the flat meadows to the right and left of the banks of the Mura and Taurach rivers, leaving endless space for activities. In addition, the side valleys provide the perfect contrast - tranquil bag valleys with no through traffic and full of hidden natural beauty and enchanting hiking trails. It has been almost a decade since the Lungau received the UNESCO Biosphere Park Salzburg Lungau award for its high standard as a natural region, as well as for the quality of life, for the preservation of old traditions and the cultivation of its own culture.

Decelerate, relax and gather strength
In Salzburg's Lungau region, you can do without a lot. For example, traffic lights and traffic jams. You don't know them here. Everywhere people move stress-free. Experience the magic of the Swiss stone pine, feel the power of the forest or get acquainted with the beneficial properties of mountain herbs during hay meditation. Simply get out into nature and find many treasures. About 70 managed alpine huts and 60 crystal clear mountain lakes are waiting to be discovered. The ideal complement is the dense and above all very varied network of bike paths. A leisurely option is the classic Murradweg, which leads from the source of the river in the far west right across the Lungau. For sporty bikers, there are 17 MTB tours with a total of 480 kilometers and, as a highlight, the Lungau Extreme route: a crisp round with 166.8 kilometers and 6,060 meters of elevation gain from Tamsweg via Göriach, Mauterndorf and St. Michael, up to the Katschberg and back via St. Michael.

Where genuine and good ingredients deliver full flavor
Lungau is home to many fine ingredients: from the famous Lungauer Eachtling, the local quality food potato, to the barley, the Tauern rye, and the Grantn, also known as cranberries. Tasty Lungau butter and cream are the main ingredients for the Rahmkoch, known as Lungau marzipan - a unique, sweet specialty that can be tasted at the numerous alpine huts. When the good stuff grows on your doorstep, the kitchen naturally benefits as well. This is the case at the Löckerwirt in St. Margarethen, an inn with a history dating back to the 17th century. Angus cattle, goats and chickens are at home in the inn's own farm on the edge of Europe's largest Swiss pine forest, and grazing geese cavort in the meadow opposite. Guests in Salzburg's Lungau region can get active during bread baking classes with the organic farmer, breakfast hikes in the stone pine forest and herb walks. There are many tempting and beneficial specialties to discover here. From the Kaspressknödel to the Zirbenirup. Not only the Lungauer themselves live for this - the Lungau is simply good for everyone!
