Impressive views in the most magnificent colors of autumn on mountain, valley and lake. Experience more!

When the temperatures get a little cooler and the forests turn colorful, the most beautiful time for hiking begins. You should have experienced these five hikes.

In the footsteps of Goethe in the Bernese Oberland
On October 12, 1779, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe hiked from Grindelwald over the Grosse Scheidegg to the Haslital. On his way he crossed the Rosenlauital, which still impresses with its natural beauty. Hikers can get to know the wildly romantic valley comfortably by post bus. The route winds through mighty forests and gentle alpine meadows, past ancient alpine huts and magnificent cheese stores. Throughout the valley, mighty waterfalls, romantic grottos and bizarre rock formations await. The Rosenlaui glacier gorge is open daily and offers an almost mystical experience, especially when it rains.

Panorama trail over Zurich
Directly from the main station in Zurich, the Üetlibergbahn takes you up to the 871 meter high local mountain of the Zwingli city. A few steps after the top station, the hiker encounters Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and other planets. The "Planetenweg" explains our solar system and leads a short distance to the summit of the Üetliberg, where an observation tower offers an unobstructed view of Zurich and the lake, especially in autumn. The path continues along the ridge of the mountain to Felsenegg. From there, a cable car takes hikers down to Adliswil before taking the S-Bahn back to Zurich. The panoramic trail is about six kilometers long and, with a duration of two hours and easy requirements, is also suitable for families.

Les Terrasses de Lavaux (Lake Geneva area)
The wine terraces of the Lavaux region between Lausanne and Vevey were created as early as the 12th century and have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The slopes of the largest contiguous wine-growing area in Switzerland, covering 800 hectares, are ideal for hiking. The path from Saint-Saphorin to Lutry winds in serpentines through the middle of the vineyards and leads to picturesque villages, such as medieval Lutry. The cozy wine cellars in the heart of the villages invite you to get to know the wines of the region. The rather easy hike has a length of eleven kilometers and takes about three hours.

Around Lake Sils (Grisons)
Friedrich Nietzsche spent seven summers at Lake Sils and worked out many of his works there. However, the Upper Engadine lake district is also a worthwhile destination in autumn, when the larch forests turn colorful. The almost 18-kilometer-long circular trail around Lake Sils starts in Sils-Maria, Nietzsche's former place of residence. It first leads to Segl-Baselgia, from where a high-altitude path leads in the direction of Maloja. There the Atelier Segantini invites you to a cultural stopover. Passing the hamlet of Isola, you return to Sils-Maria on the other side of the lake. The hiking time of the moderately difficult trail is about five hours; the route offers beautiful views of the lake and the village center of Sils-Maria.

Gastlosen Tour (Fribourg Region)
Ahead the view of a razor-sharp jagged massif, in the back the green expanses: The eleven-kilometer round tour around the Gastlosen leads through a spectacular landscape. The circular hike in the south of Jaun offers great variety in terms of geology and flora and impresses with a magnificent view of the Bernese Alps. The starting point of the moderately difficult hike is the mountain station of the Gastlosen chairlift. From there, the trail leads across gentle alpine meadows and sparse forest passages ever closer to the craggy limestone mountains of the Gastlosen. On partly somewhat exposed paths "Wolfsort" is reached, the highest point of the hike at 1921 meters. On the eastern side of the Gastlosen, the trail leads back to the mountain station. Mountain hikers should plan about four hours hiking time for the moderately difficult round tour.
