Three quarters of the canton of Ticino borders Italy, the rest of the border line is divided between Grisons in the east, Uri and Valais in the north.

Ticino owes its climate, which is in the European average, to this geographical position. In just a few kilometers you can travel from the eternal ice through wild and romantic valleys - where rushing streams find their way - to southern shores around the shores of Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore.

The Italian part of Switzerland also has the densest and most luxuriant vegetation in Switzerland. The flora is typical of the Mediterranean region: for example, camellias, magnolias, azaleas, but also palms, mimosas, orange and lemon trees grow in Ticino. Merlot vines are also common. In the side valleys, on the other hand, grow chestnut, hazelnut and walnut trees, up to the beech, oak and conifer trees in the alpine regions.
