Excursion destination Gänglesee in Steg

The small village of Steg is a district of the municipality of Triesenberg in the Liechtenstein Oberland. The village center of Triesenberg is located at about 900 meters, Steg at an altitude of 1,300 meters.

Until the second half of the 19th century, Steg could only be reached by a narrow mule track. It was not until 1867 that a paved road and a small tunnel were built. When at the beginning of the 20th century the Samina Valley was opened up for tourism, Steg also attracted attention.

In the immediate vicinity of the hamlet of Steg are the reservoirs Steg and Gänglesee, in the Liechtenstein Alpine region between Triesenberg and Malbun at an altitude of 1,302 meters above sea level. The Gängelsee is a place of peace and relaxation and a nice destination for families and nature lovers. You can swim in the mountain lake and the many fireplaces invite you to barbecue and picnic. Directly adjacent to the Gänglesee is the Stausee Steg, a small paradise for anglers. Day tickets for fishing can be purchased at the fishing club.

Hiking enthusiasts start here for a leisurely round hike from Steg to Silum. The approximately 2-hour leisurely hike offers relaxation in the silence of the forest, leads across magnificent flower meadows and offers wonderful views of both sides of the mountain ridge. On a cart track it goes slightly uphill to the alp Sücka at 1,400 m above sea level.
