The Tyrolean Kaunertal is privileged for winter sports due to its altitude. The Kaunertal Glacier is one of the highest ski resorts in Tyrol.

In the glacier skiing area, winter sports enthusiasts can rely on guaranteed snow from October to June, as the fantastic skiing area is located between 2,150 and 3,160 meters above sea level. At these thousand meters above sea level, the 8 lifts and a magic carpet take snow-hungry skiers comfortably to a total of 54 kilometers of slopes and 30 kilometers of off-piste runs. Many snowboarders and freeskiers are on board, as the glacier is considered an absolute hot spot of the boarding scene. A corresponding snow park with top shaped setup defends this reputation!

Family-friendly skiing fun
In the family ski area of Fendels at the entrance to the Kaunertal valley, 7 lifts and a magic carpet ensure a comfortable ascent, 16 km of perfectly groomed slopes offer plenty of space for the "white rush". Also in the evening, because the generous floodlight system illuminates the field of vision for sporty night owls every week when skiing at night.

The winter nordic "on the track
The cross-country ski trail network of the Kaunertal valley, which is snow-sure from November to April thanks to the altitude, comprises a good 25 kilometers and stretches from Feichten to the Kaunerberg (not contiguous). Real "highlights" are the high-altitude trails in the Kaunergrat Nature Park around the Gachen Blick with entry at the Kaunergrat Nature Park House. In Feichten, friends of Nordic sports will even find a "field of activity" at night - a 5 km long, illuminated loop.

Winter and snowshoe hiking
"Snowmotion" away from the cross-country and ski slopes in the midst of an almost untouched winter landscape. A dream? No, because the Kaunertal valley is crisscrossed by (mostly barrier-free) hiking trails - often parallel to the cross-country ski runs - surrounded by forests, snow and tranquility. On these trails, Nordic Winter Walking also becomes a sporting pleasure, a dedicated Nordic Walking school teaches the correct and effective technique. Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday, the weekly program offers basic courses, courses for slightly advanced and for refining the technique. And where no path leads anymore, comrade snowshoe comes into action.

Some of the most beautiful snowshoe hikes lead deep into the Kaunergrat Nature Park, such as to the Verpeilhütte, to the Aifneralm or Falkaunsalm. Ideal starting point for individual snow fun on foot or with "Yeti-Treeter" is the Nature Park House, at the Piller Sattel a circular hiking trail with great views is waiting.

Ski tours
Those who prefer to make the ascent and descent on skis rather than on foot will get their money's worth on a ski tour in the Kaunertal. Via the Kaunertal Glacier Road, even a three-thousand-meter peak like the Glockturm is relatively easy to reach for tourers. If you want, you can be accompanied by an experienced mountain guide, there are also entire training and touring weeks on offer.

Ice climbing
Almost 25 icefalls make the Kaunertal a Dorado and an insider tip for friends of an icy passion in the vertical. In special courses with climbing professionals, even beginners can take on the sporting challenge of experiencing Mother Nature's bizarre works of art up close with ice axe and crampons.

Tobogganing
Four natural toboggan runs promise pure tobogganing pleasure in Kaunertal. The runs from the Schnadiger Weiher to Kaunerberg (2 km), from the Falkaunsalm (4 km) and from the Ögghöfen in Feichten (2 km, illuminated, every Monday tobogganing evening with mulled wine party) can be reached on foot and promise great views as well as wonderful descents through the spruce forests. The Fendels toboggan run (4.5 km, accessible by lift) is a special experience for families. Especially popular is the night tobogganing every Thursday. This toboggan run has been awarded the seal of approval for natural toboggan runs.
