Take a journey through six centuries.
A special experience in the open air.

... and discover Salzburg's rural past. The largest museum in the Salzburg region is located in the municipality of Großgmain, just a few kilometers outside the city of Salzburg. It is also easy to reach by public transport from Salzburg main station or Bad Reichenhall.

More than 100 original historical buildings from agriculture, crafts and trade can be seen on the scenic museum grounds.

Various (permanent) exhibitions, some of which are interactive, illuminate the whole spectrum of everyday farming life in different ways and allow visitors to immerse themselves even more in life in the past and the challenges it presented. For example, the shadow scenographies in three houses draw attention to the less idyllic side of rural life.

Whether on foot or by train, both are possible at the museum in Großgmain. Since you can explore the area with the 2 km long museum train, a visit to the museum has become easier and more attractive for many people. However, those who prefer to get around on foot can do so just as easily and extensively.
