Stage by stage on the Liechtenstein Trail
There are many ways to hike the Liechtenstein Trail. Typically, the hike starts in the south and takes you north, but it is possible to start from any municipality. The trail is divided into five stages and two circular routes.
For hikers
The first stage starts at the imposing Gutenberg Castle in Balzers and leads along the Alte Römerstrasse to historic Triesen. The second stage leads from Triesenberg via the historic Prufatscheng farmstead with impressive views of the Rhine Valley to the mystical ruins of Schalun Castle, past the majestic Vaduz Castle. On the third stage, the route leads from Vaduz past the court winery of the Prince of Liechtenstein, the Red House and Roman ruins to Schaan. The stage finish is Nendeln. From village to village with a break at the bathing lake, the fourth stage leads along old smugglers' paths and the historic Silk Tree Trail to the finish at the Schaanwald customs office.
For cyclists
You can also explore the Liechtenstein Trail on a mountain bike, gravel bike or e-bike. At 85 kilometers, the cycle route is slightly longer than the hiking route and extends over three stages.
