From mountain to mountain on the Alpine Passes Trail
If you are looking for sporting challenges, the Alpine Passes Trail is the right place to go. Between Chur in Graubünden and St. Gingolph on Lake Geneva, many of the most beautiful and impressive crossings of the Graubünden and Valais Alps are brought together in a single continuous route. The result is a challenging, but also inspiring, alpine hiking tour with 34 stages. Highlight follows highpoint, from the Greina plateau to the passes and lakes at the foot of the Dents du Midi. For the 610 kilometer long long-distance hike a very good physical condition is necessary and the degree of difficulty is high.

Via Alpina near Melchsee-Frutt, Alps Switzerland

Crossing national borders on the Via Alpina
The Via Alpina is the classic long-distance hiking trail in Switzerland. Like no other route, it offers insight into Swiss Alpine culture. The start of the 390-kilometer route, however, is in Liechtenstein's capital Vaduz. The trail then leads through six cantons and over 14 of the most beautiful Alpine passes to Montreux on Lake Geneva. The geology is exciting: shifts, overthrusts, subsidences and rock slides bear witness to the tremendous force that continues to shape the Alps to this day. The level of difficulty of the Via Alpina is medium, but it requires a very good physical condition.

Jura high trail near Montricher, Alps Switzerland

Away from the crowds on the Jura High Trail
Long-distance hiking has a long tradition in Switzerland - marking of a route began as early as 1905. The Jura High Trail connects the two major cities of Zurich and Geneva in a 320-kilometer arc. On the way, sights such as the rocky slopes of the Creux-du-Van await, and there are fantastic views of the Alps, the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains. Along the way, you'll find craggy cliffs and deep grottos, river springs and lakes with no visible outlet, quiet forests and open pastures. The Jura-Crest trail requires no special technique and only medium physical condition. It is therefore perfect as an introduction to the long-distance trails.
