Canton Grisons
In the heart of Graubünden lies Parc Ela. The diverse landscape around the alpine passes Albula, Julier and Septimer and offers unspoiled nature, intact villages and a living culture in the three languages Romansh, Italian and German.
The park communities work together to strengthen the regional economy, protect nature and the landscape, and preserve the cultural heritage.
With the Alpine passes Septimer, Julier and Albula, three historically important north-south connections are located in the park area. In addition, more than 50 "Furcla", "Fürggli" or "Furcletta" lead along winding paths over rugged mountain ranges into other valleys. A pass connects and promotes cultural exchange. Roman cart tracks and columns, medieval castles, baroque churches, hotels from the stagecoach era and historic village scenes - they all bear witness to the rich history of the pass.
The extraordinary cultural richness of Parc Ela is embedded in a diverse natural environment. From the lowest point in the Schin Gorge at 745 meters to the highest point Piz Kesch at 3418 meters, the colors and shapes of the landscape change again and again. The nature park offers gentle hedgerow landscapes, flowering dry meadows, rugged gorges, rustic pine forests, barren landscapes with glaciers and mountain lakes, imposing far-reaching views from high peaks as well as an extraordinary variety of plants and animals.
