Eringer ring cow fights

The Eringer cow is a traditional, pugnacious Valais cow breed.

As traditional as the breed are the ring cow fights, which are held each spring and fall in the Valais.

They come out of their stalls full of fight to determine the hierarchy in the herd. After the regional competitions starting at the end of March, the crowning event follows in May at the national final in the Arena Praz Bardy in Sion. In the second half of June, the fights on the summer pastures take place on the occasion of the alpine grazing, followed by the summer stamping festivals. With the regional competitions in autumn, where the Eringer cows can qualify for the national finals, the new season of cow fighting begins.
