Probably nowhere else is there so much culture in such a small and manageable space. Embark on an eventful journey through Vaduz.
In Vaduz you will find impressive architecture, historical and modern, art, museums, shopping opportunities and many attractions on a length of a few hundred meters.
The name Vaduz has its origins in the Rhaeto-Romanic language and dates back to the time when the Romans were lords of the province of Rhaetia. The first documented mention dates back to 1150. In 1712 Prince Johann Adam of Liechtenstein acquired the County of Vaduz, and in 1719 Emperor Charles VI united it with the other part of the country, the Lordship of Schellenberg, and elevated the territory to the Imperial Principality of Liechtenstein. Vaduz became the capital of the whole country. Since 1939, Vaduz Castle has been the permanent residence of the Princes von und zu Liechtenstein.
Vaduz Castle towers about 120 meters above the capital Vaduz. It is the landmark of the capital of Liechtenstein and visible from far away. It is not possible to visit the castle, but guided tours in Vaduz and a visit to the Prince's Cinema provide interesting insights into the history of the castle.
