Roam through wild gorges, storm peaks, explore lonely alpine pastures, hike along pristine shores....

Those who like to walk will find countless opportunities in Upper Bavaria to lace up their hiking boots and simply start walking. It doesn't matter if you are a sporty ambitious person, a hiker, a walker or a family with small children.

Vacationers and hiking enthusiasts should bring time with them if they want to explore Germany's southernmost region. Because in the step tempo the autumnal landscape of Bavaria can be experienced most meaningfully.

What you can (re)discover while hiking - besides your feet? A beautiful spot on earth - and the Bavarian coziness at a stop in mountain huts, alpine inns and guesthouses. Whether climbing on the Herzogstand, on the way on "royal paths" or healing climate hiking in the Tölzer Land - these are just a few examples of more than 1,100 hiking suggestions.

In the footsteps of King Ludwig II
The King Ludwig Trail leads in memory of the legendary fairy-tale king Ludwig II in several variants for about 120 kilometers through Upper Bavaria. It starts at Lake Starnberg, where the regent of Bavaria mysteriously died - baroque churches, monasteries and the castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein line the route. Those who wish can take advantage of the tourism association's offer, send their luggage on its way alone - and hike comfortably without ballast through the foothills of the Alps.

Herzogstand: A ridge hike with great views
Experienced hikers are drawn to the 1,731-meter Herzogstand summit, once Ludwig II's favorite mountain. The spectacular tour along the "Herzogstand-Heimgarten" ridge trail requires a head for heights and surefootedness: hikers reach the Heimgarten summit cross via serpentines, some of which are steep. From here, a fantastic view opens up over the foothills of the Alps - all the way to Lake Starnberg. At lower altitudes, the Herzogstand is also the right destination for families. On the approximately two-kilometer-long panoramic nature trail, children and adults with an inquiring mind can get to the bottom of the geological phenomena of the region. Even for the little ones, getting there is no problem: the theme trail is easily accessible by cable car.

Healing climate hiking in Tölzer Land
An insider tip for health-conscious hikers is the Heilklimapark in Tölzer Land. If you want to do something good for your body, you can specifically strengthen your immune system and endurance here. In order to create an ideal route for the organism, the paths were analyzed and classified with regard to natural environmental stimuli such as solar radiation, wind and temperature. Now guests can - depending on the time of day and weather conditions - choose the route that suits them best from around 40 tours, for example the "Sunny Alpine Trail" when the sky is cloudless. The 15.5-kilometer, moderately difficult round trip from the WaldherrAlm parking lot near Wackersberg takes just under 5 hours.
