A royal combination: In the Ammergau Alps, hikers can experience unspoiled nature and admire architectural gems at the same time.

The rugged mountain world already enchanted King Ludwig II, who set a cultural highlight with Linderhof Castle. Along the Königstraße, hikers discover not only the Wieskirche, showpiece of Upper Bavarian rococo, but also the Ammer Durchbruch and the wildly romantic Schleierfälle. While the "Scheibum", the Ammer breakthrough, offers many kayakers the ideal starting point for a tour of the Ammer, the Schleierfälle are a quiet, almost mystical place.

It took more than a thousand years to create this natural monument. The spring creek tumbles over a slope on the banks of the Ammer in gentle veils of water. This created lime deposits of mosses, leaves and branches, which allow the special tuff, the "Living Stone", to grow.

Since the Ammergau Alps is the only region in Bavaria to have the "Best of Hiking" area, guests have access to excellent signposting. Here, pleasure hikers and summit strikers, culture hikers and adventurers will find a selection of trails at every level of difficulty: from a stroll through the Graswangtal valley with a visit to Linderhof Castle to the hearty mountain tour to the Notkarspitze and the via ferrata on the Ettaler Mandl.
