L'Alpe d'Huez is located on a south-facing plateau 1,860 m above sea level on the southern flank of the Grandes Rousses massif. Also called "l'Ile au Soleil" (Island of the Sun).

The originality of a mountain village offers the ski resort of Huez at an altitude of 1450 m overlooking the Sarenne Gorge.
