Hiking is becoming more and more popular, as it is the best way to experience nature,

without interfering with them. On foot, everyone can wander through all the landscapes, whether high and low mountains or valley plains, at their own pace. Adventurous hiking tours lure everywhere, for example the "Chemin de Giono" in the Provençal Drôme or the crossing of the high plateau of the Ardèche. A tour around Mont Aiguille in the Vercors massif or mountain hikes in the summit regions of Dents Blanches and Mont Blanc offer great experiences and can even be managed without mountaineering skills.

Rhône-Alpes is the only French region that can offer opportunities for glacier hiking, mainly from June to September in the Mont Blanc massif and the Blanc glacier in Les 2 Alpes. However, rope teams led by mountain guides and crampons are required for glacier tours. Experienced mountain hikers can set out on a particularly interesting glacier hike accompanied by ice explorer Luc Moreau. Here, the 13 km up to Nidd'Aigle at an altitude of 2372 m are covered by the Mont Blanc mountain railroad from Fayet. During this tour over the Bionnassay glacier, the guide explains the history of the formation of this alpine ice landscape.

Parents with small children have the possibility to rent off-road strollers in Les Saisies in the department of Savoie to admire Mont Blanc or the massifs of Beaufortain and Aravis on three different high-altitude trails. On the way there is the opportunity to have a snack on a farm. Also in summer, fans can glide over the slopes, but with the mountain board, a mixture of snowboard and skateboard. This activity is particularly offered in Les Saisies in the department of Savoie.

In Rhône-Alpes, no hiking desire remains unfulfilled. A total of 43,000 km of marked hiking trails run through the region. The GR5 long-distance hiking trail from Lake Geneva to the Briançon area is certainly one of the most beautiful, a kind of great Alpine route. It leads along below Mont Blanc, crosses the Vanoise region, touches majestic three-thousand-meter peaks and magnificent glacier landscapes.
