The blooming of thousands of alpine flowers attracts visitors to the Julian Alps from May 23 - June 8, 2025.

On guided hikes and in workshops, the festival offers all nature enthusiasts an impressive insight into the world of mountain flowers and herbs.

Thousands of years of coexistence between man and nature have shaped the landscape of the Julian Alps and created habitats for many unique plants. However, a large part of the meadows in are man-made. Without the careful work on site, the meadows would be overgrown by forest and at higher altitudes would turn into heather and rocks - and all the beautiful floral richness of the meadows from the valley to the high mountains would be lost.

The location, the rugged terrain, the difference in altitude, the influence of the Mediterranean and the geological profile of Bohinj have resulted in an extraordinary variety of vegetation:

The valley is home to colorful meadow flora (spring honeysuckle, arnica, bluebells...)

The lower mountains are adorned in spring by the beautiful Cypripedium calceolus (yellow lady's slipper), the Bohinj iris, Gentiana clusii (true alpine gentian)... adorned.

The Fužina Mountains are rich in scree flora, which can be found above 2000 meters. Small, bright splashes of color among the grey rock delight our hearts here... the Dolomite cinquefoil (Potentilla nitida), the celestial herald (Eritrichium nanum), the Triglav gentian and Triglav pippau (Gentiana terglouensis - Crepis terglouensis)....

At the end of June, the black cabbage roses (Nigritella) and the alpine edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) appear - the plant species of the raised bogs that have developed from peat mosses.

Wild plants play an important role in the sensitive ecosystem of the mountains. There are few areas in the Alps that have such a diverse flora as the Julian Alps! The proximity to the Mediterranean is reflected in the warmth-loving vegetation of the southern slopes of the lower Bohinj and Pršivec mountains.

Indeed, a wealth of plants can be found here in a relatively small and easily accessible area, offering the attentive nature lover unforgettable experiences, beauty and knowledge.

The International Wildflower Festival pays homage to this botanical beauty with a colorful bouquet of guided tours, events and culinary experiences. Discover the beauty and healing power of Slovenia's alpine flowers in over 24 villages covering 300 km².
