The largest pastoral settlement in Europe
The shepherds' settlement on Velika planina comprises around 140 huts. The roofs of the huts are covered with typical spruce shingles and almost reach the ground. It is particularly lively here from June onwards, when the huts are inhabited by shepherds who stay on the mountain pastures with their cattle until September. During this time, you can also get a taste or two of the fresh milk prepared by the shepherds. Some of the huts are even open to visitors, so you can spend the night here just like the shepherds...

Where the wilderness of the Alps touches the soul
As soon as you leave the serpentines of Bled or Bohinj behind you, Pokljuka welcomes you with a calming backdrop: A seemingly endless sea of dense, deep green spruce forests stretches out before you. Up here, it's not you who sets the pace, but nature. As you walk across the wooden walkway of the mystical Goreljek moor, you can sense the millions of years of history of this landscape, while rare plants bloom along the way. For adventurers, the Pokljuka Gorge opens up - a natural wonder of steep rock faces and hidden paths that invites you to marvel.
Pokljuka is the perfect starting point for reaching for the stars. The most beautiful routes to the majestic Triglav, the highest peak in the country, start from here. If you prefer a gentler approach, climb Viševnik and enjoy a view you will never forget...

The mountain pastures of Bohinj

When you leave everyday life behind in the valley and step onto the lush high plateaus, you are immersed in a world that follows its own timeline. For over a millennium, Bohinj farmers have been driving their cattle up to the mountain pastures in summer. This heritage is not museum history here, but everyday life. Breathe in the aromatic mountain air and listen to the gentle sound of cowbells mingling with the wind. It is the soundtrack to a centuries-old herding tradition. The mountain pastures of Bohinj are a paradise for connoisseurs of authenticity. Even today, the famous Bohinj cheese is still made by hand in the traditional copper cauldrons of the shepherds' huts. Embark on a culinary adventure and taste the Mohant - a protected, pleasantly sharp soft cheese with a strong character that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. When the summer comes to an end in September, you can attend the traditional "cow ball" in Ukanc, when the colorfully decorated herds and proud shepherds are welcomed to the valley with music and festivities.

The undiscovered green heart of the Steiner Alps
They still exist - the real insider tips where nature plays the leading role and the hustle and bustle of everyday life is left behind in the valley. The Menina Alp (Menina planina) in the north of Slovenia is just such a place. At an altitude of around 1,400 meters, this gentle, wide karst plateau spreads out and gives its visitors the most precious commodity of our time: absolute peace, untouched nature and the space to simply take a deep breath. While its famous neighbor Velika Planina attracts many visitors, the Menina Alp has retained its wild, original character. Here you can stroll through sparse beech forests that suddenly open up to expansive, lush green pastures. In summer, the gentle ringing of cowbells mingles with the sound of the wind.
