Experience the unique beauty of Slovenia's mountaineering villages. Close to nature, on the trail of sustainability... Here, less is more.

The Alps are a valuable and at the same time fragile habitat that requires special care and responsibility. With the increasing challenges posed by global warming, mass tourism, the extensive construction of mountain roads, ski centers and other major infrastructure projects, the need has arisen for the countries in the Alpine region to protect this area from excessive interference with the environment or to establish more sustainable guidelines. Eight Alpine countries have signed an international agreement - the Alpine Convention, which commits the signatory states to sustainable development: to respect and preserve the natural environment, local traditions and cultural landscape, and to limit excessive interference with the environment. Mountaineering villages are one of the concrete ways of putting the Alpine Convention into practice.

Mountaineering villages in Slovenia - oases of untouched nature experiences
Four destinations in Slovenia are currently part of the international network of mountaineering villages: Jezersko, Luče, Dovje-Mojstrana and Baška grapa. Two of these destinations are located in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and another two in the Julian Alps.

Mountaineering village Jezersko

Mountaineering village Jezersko

Jezersko: where nature is at its most beautiful
Jezersko is characterized by an exceptional alpine landscape, surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke Mountains. The alpine valley is known for its healthy climate and unique lake mineral water, exceptional natural diversity and rich cultural heritage. A large part of the area is part of the Natura 2000 network, where the glacial landscape, numerous plant and animal species and centuries-old farms come together. The rich tradition of sheep farming is closely linked to the autochthonous Jezersko-Solčava sheep. This is a paradise for all those in search of active experiences and authentic contact with nature. The hiking and mountain trails in the area connect to the Jezerska planinska pot mountain trail.

Luče, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Luče, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Luče: a nest in the middle of the mountains
uče - a mountain village at the confluence of the Savinja and Lučnica rivers, at the foot of Raduha, Rogatec and the Dleskovška planota karst plateau. As a member of the Mountain Villages Network, the village of Luče focuses on authenticity, tranquillity and a responsible approach to the environment. Here you can experience the most on foot, in contact with the nature of the mountain world and with a feeling for the place and its customs. A special feature of Luče is that numerous marked mountain trails start in the village, making Luče an ideal starting point for mountain hiking.

Dovje-Mojstrana, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Dovje-Mojstrana, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Dovje-Mojstrana: a paradise between Triglav and the Karawanks
Dovje and Mojstrana and the surrounding villages lie on the threshold of the Triglav National Park. Surrounded on one side by the relatively easily accessible peaks of the Karawanks, on the other by the mighty Triglav mountain range in the Julian Alps. Alpine valleys such as Kot, Krma and Vrata are popular starting points for ascents to Slovenia's highest mountain, Triglav (2,864 m). The connection to the mountains can be seen in the rich mountaineering tradition in the villages, which you can learn about in the Slovenski planinski muzej mountain museum.

Baška grapa, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Baška grapa, mountaineering village in Slovenia

Baška grapa: the hidden gem of the Slovenian Alps
Baška grapa is one of the wildest and most impressive areas of the Julian Alps. This alpine valley on the Bača river is home to numerous picturesque villages and hamlets on steep slopes and sunny terraces. Baška grapa is known for its exceptional plant diversity, which is why the slopes above the valley are a magnet for lovers of alpine flora; due to its botanical diversity, Črna prst is also known as the "Botanical Garden of Europe". One of the most beautiful Alpine railway lines, the Bohinj Railway, runs through the valley and its objects represent an invaluable cultural heritage.
