Strolling through colorful garden landscapes, lying under palm trees with a view of snow-capped mountains, listening to world-famous music groups by the water lily pond... Many things are possible in Trauttmansdorff.

The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano extend over 12 hectares with an altitude difference of 100 meters. This opens up spectacular views of the more than 80 garden landscapes, the surrounding mountains and the city of Merano. Gently winding paths take you on a journey through four garden worlds with plants from all over the world, past sunny terraces and babbling brooks.

On the southern slope below the castle, the exotic sun gardens exude Mediterranean flair with an olive grove, cacti, aloes and agaves. In the water and terrace gardens, steps and watercourses connect the different levels, from geometrically laid out beds to a sensory garden.

At the foot of the terraces is the water lily pond, framed by over 200 palm trees as well as camellias and azaleas. On the north side of the palace are the forest gardens with miniature forests of East Asia and America. The glass house displays tropical useful plants and a terrarium. A fruit orchard with old apple and pear varieties, a cottage garden and a vineyard illustrate the traditional cultural landscape of South Tyrol.

Trauttmansdorff Castle sits enthroned in the middle of the gardens. It is home to the Touriseum, South Tyrol's regional museum for tourism, which tells the story of 250 years of Alpine tourism history in an interactive way.
